5 Pop Songs You Didn’t Know Sia Wrote

Last year, the world discovered amazing Australian singer, songwriter, producer and even video director, Sia. Her song, "Chandelier", was one of the most popular songs at the time and still is. "Soon We'll Be Gone" and "Alive", her first singles from her newest album "This Is Acting" released on January 29th, are official earworms!

Not all of you may know this but Sia's been active in the music industry since the early 90's. "This Is Acting", her 7th album and the title of the al was inspired by the songs in the album that she wrote for others, hence the acting. Sia wrote many songs for other artists but for this album she decided to take the songs that she didn't release (some because the artists didn't want them, some because she decided not to give them away after all) and sing them herself. That's the reason for her new hair color, half blonde (Sia) and half black (not Sia, alluring to all the songs she wrote for other artists)

Before she gained popularity with "Chandelier", Sia wrote a ton of songs for other artists. Here are some huge hits of hers that you probably already knew the lyrics to and have danced to many a time.

1. Diamonds – Rihanna

Listen to the song again, you'll even hear Sia's voice singing the repetitive lines of "Shine bright like a diamond". After the song was already a success, Sia revealed that she wrote the lyrics in only 14 minutes! Beat that!

2. Cannonball – Lea Michele

Sia wrote this song for Lea Michele after her boyfriend and co-star Cory Monteith's death in 2013. Lea Michele said that that song helped her a lot.

For every song Sia writes, she also records a demo version. Here's the demo she recorded for Cannonball she then sent to Lea Michele.

3. Perfume – Britney Spears

Britney wrote this song with Sia and it was recorded for Britney's 8th album in 2013.

A version of Sia singing "Perfume" was released too and it is much better than Britney's version (of course!!). Hear for yourselves:

4. Pretty Hurts – Beyoncé

Sia wrote actually three songs for Beyoncé in 2013: "Standing on the Sun", "God Made You Beautiful" and "Pretty Hurts"

5. We Are One – Pitbull, J-Lo

Yup. The official song of the 2014 FIFA World Cup was written by Sia. Actually, this song was written by many people: Pitbull, Thomas Troelsen, Lopez, Leitte, Daniel Murcia, Lukas "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, Henry "Cirkut" Walter and RedOne, but Sia was one of the original writers.

Sia truly is a gifted singer but also a wonderful songwriter and producer. For now, we'll enjoy her new album but be sure to discover more amazing songs in the future that, whether you know it or not, came from the creative mind of Ms. Sia Furler.
